Even though Indigenous peoples account for 5 percent of the world's population, they support more than 80 percent of its biodiversity. Yet their work largely remains unrecognized at best, and at worst, their lives and livelihoods are threatened. Photographer Kiliii Yuyan and writer Gleb Raygorodetsky look at the importance of sustainable land management by Indigenous communities in Greenland, Ecuador, Australia, Mongolia, and Palau. This issue explores the overriding question: What lessons can be learned and implemented before its too late?
